Student Employment @ UNB Libraries

Student Assistants are hired at each of our libraries to work part-time during the academic year. Students work at peak times during the day, in the evenings, and/or on weekends. Hours of work depend on your class schedule and the needs of the hiring department or library. There may also be the opportunity for full-time or part-time employment during the summer. Our Student Assistants develop valuable work-place experience; learn more about the library, which will help in their course work; and have the opportunity to supplement their income. Student Assistant work includes front line service, behind-the-scenes technical services work, or clerical duties. Some positions may offer a combination of these responsibilities.

One application is all that’s required to be considered for employment at the Harriet Irving, Science & Forestry, and the Engineering Libraries on the Fredericton campus, or at the Hans W. Klohn Commons on the Saint John campus. Your application will be kept on file for up to 12 months. Some libraries and departments interview students in the spring for positions starting in the fall. Other departments may wait until closer to the beginning of fall term, or once term is underway, to hire student assistants. Students are also occasionally hired during the academic year.

As of September 1st beginning student assistants on the Fredericton campus will be paid at a rate of $9.50/hour. Returning student assistants can expect an annual raise in pay of $.50/hour. Students in Saint John should inquire during the application process as to the rate of pay.

To apply, complete the application form available from Library Service Desks or download the application formonline. Please deliver your completed application to:
